Artist Statement
My artwork is essentially a reverent investigation of the ordinary. My paintings explore the human sense of inhabiting Time and the persuasive presence of memory. How we make sense of experience, endure loss, find love, structure expectation and fragile codes of conduct, how we survive and fail to survive, as individuals whose lives take shape in Time.
In the most current paintings and works on paper, an amalgamation of anachronistic figures and visual elements share a perilous existence, one of disruption and its aftermath. The material world is displaced in garland like patterns of dust and debris, unyielding forces animate, alter and violate the mundane and familiar. These paintings contemplate the imagined trajectory of all that an ordinary life has set into motion and the unresolved nature of what remains when that life is interrupted.
